Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom teeth often don't have room to come through properly — we assess, and remove them when they do.

Why they're often removed

Wisdom teeth are the last to come through, usually in your late teens or twenties, and there's often not enough room in the jaw. That can cause them to grow at an angle, get stuck under the gum (impacted), or push against neighbouring teeth.

Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — we'll assess with an X-ray and only recommend removal if it's actually causing or likely to cause a problem.

What's involved

Simple extractions (fully erupted teeth) are similar to any other tooth removal. Impacted teeth may need a small surgical procedure, still done under local anaesthetic, with sedation available if you'd prefer to be more relaxed.

Do all four need to come out at once?

Not necessarily — it depends on their position. We'll talk through whether to do one, two, or all four in a single visit.

How long is recovery?

Simple extractions: a few days. Impacted teeth: up to a week or so of swelling and tenderness is normal.

Wisdom teeth causing trouble?

Book a consultation and we'll take a look with an X-ray.
